I'm writing a biography of Vera Menchik - I wondered if the club membership records will tell me what number St. John's Road was the family's address in the early 1920's. Any ideas? I know that the club came by her medals somehow - no mean feat as I think they were in the house in Lambeth where she died in an air-raid in 1944. If there are any archivists or chess document collectors out there, please let me know if you have anything Menchik-related - including copies of Chess magazine from the 1920's and 30's - or if you know where any local material on her might be. Jo.

I will check the Minute Books some time, see if I can trace when she applied for membership.

Sorry, the Minute Book refers to her joining but gives no address.

Brian Denman (temporarily incommunicado) reckons 13 or 73 St. John's Rd., probably the former, depending on how yoiu read her writing....
