SLOW-PLAY LADDER TOURNAMENT
For the Rules see below. To enter, find a player, play a game and enter the result on the record sheet on the board in the upper club room. Five players so far, two or three more would make it more competitive.
Games played so far:
5 July W. Penfold v R. Webb 1-0
21 Aug R. Webb v K. Lucas 1-0
5 Sept K. Lucas v G. Jelliss 1-0
10 Sept W. Penfold v K. Lucas 1-0
11 Oct G. Jelliss v R. Webb 0-1
14 Oct G. Jelliss v K. Lucas 0-1
22 Oct A. Pontonutti v R. Webb 0.5-0.5
5 Nov R. Webb v A. Pontonutti 1-0
21 Nov R. Webb v G. Jelliss 1-0
This new session runs for 12 months, 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.
An award will be made at the end of the session. Results will be judged on the Score Times Opponent's Grade (STOG). On this system the winner will not necessarily be the ladder leader, since wins against higher graded opponents count for more.
It is best to choose opponents of similar grade to your own, and to play one game as white and the other as black though not usually in the same playing session.
Note the new rule: You may not play the same opponent twice with the same colour. This means you can only play two ladder games with the same opponent (one as white the other as black). If you want to pay more games in the ladder you need to find new opponents to play with.
Please note that games in other club tournaments should take priority
over games in the ladder.
RULES
1. The games in this tournament will count for grading.
They are to be played at a standard rate which will normally be
36 moves in 90 minutes, plus 15 minutes to finish.
Each player must keep a record of the moves played.
They are best played in the quiet of the lower club room.
2. To take part, find an opponent who will agree to play.
Or contact the controller who will try to arrange a pairing.
Enter the result of the game on the sheet on the noticeboard.
Both players are then counted as players in the tournament.
You may not play the same opponent twice with the same colour.
3. Each week usually on a Thursday the tournament controller will
note the results and adjust each player's position on the ladder.
A win will move you up two rungs, a draw up one rung.
A new player may join the tournament at any time, with a zero score.
