Knoll Knights v Hastings and St Leonards 1
Friday 17 January 2014
Result 2 - 3
Unfortunately I didn't get to see very much of the match as I was concentrating hard on my own game after having played a rather indifferent opening. Certainly at one stage the match was not looking that good for us as Francis also had an inferior position and the remaining games were quite level. Jerry's game was agreed drawn first followed by Paul's and then John's.
In a complex game Francis's opponent had missed a couple of very strong possibilities but as the time control approached Francis had gained an advantage on both the board and the clock, 9 minutes to 3 minutes, and with plenty of moves still to make his opponent offered a draw.
Fortunately by then I had managed to at first equalise and then eventually play a short combination to win the exchange, so Francis accepted the draw. Once we had reached the time control my opponent sportingly resigned what was a hopeless endgame giving us a hard fought 3 -2 win.
Not all the teams have played the same number of games but this latest result gives us 4 wins from 5 matches and at least moves us towards the top of the 1st division.
