A win at last!?
We got off to a good start when Alan, on board 1, had a relatively quick draw with his 200+ graded opponent and Mel, who was always better, won on board 5. I somehow managed to survive a horrible position against Bob Elliston and drew on board 3 but Jerry, having agreed with his young opponent to play an allegro finish, unfortunately lost on board 4 from an equal ending. The match therefore depended on the result of board 2 where Alfredo stood well having won a pawn in the late opening / early middle game. Unfortunately, with seconds remaining on his clock, he missed a clear win on his final move before the time control. However my initial analysis of the adjourned position ( well Fritz's to be more precise giving Alfredo an advantage of +3.7) suggest we can be very hopeful of gaining our first win of the season.
